With WWDC fast approaching, rumors are circulating about what Apple is going to announce. The latest report claims that the redesign of the long-awaited MacBook Air may appear on the big show কিন্তু but without one of its most anticipated features.
In its weekly Power On Newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is “aiming” to launch a new MacBook Air at WWDC, although he warns that supply-chain issues could push the release to the brink. The MacBook Air is rumored to have a complete overhaul with a new slim-bezel design and iMac-inspired color.
It was also expected that the new machine would launch the next generation of Apple Silicon processors with an M2 chip, although this may not be the case. According to a series of tweets from Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has hit “technological limitations” with the development of the A16 and M2 chips, and CPU and GPU gains may not be so significant – so much so that Apple could launch it. Launches the M2 series chips on the MacBook Air with an M1 and the next 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models instead.
Kuo explained that despite the lack of real improvement, it is still possible for Apple to call the chip the M2, and he believes that there is more to Apple than just waiting. He added that the MacBook Air’s “all-new design” was enough as a selling point to make up for the lack of an M2 chip.
In addition to the Mac Mini and the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the current MacBook Air has been on the shelves since November 2020. It’s not uncommon for chip makers to release refreshed versions of existing chips with slightly higher performance, so Apple may market the MacBook Air M1. The chip as a second generation chip and still set apart from the current model.
The WWDC kicks off on Monday, June 6 at 10am with an online event at PT that will bring a sneak peek of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16. We can also get a glimpse of Apple Silicon-based. Rumor has it the MacBook Air as well as the Mac Pro.
