Surfshark VPN India shuts down the server

After ExpressVPN, Surfshark has become the second major virtual private network (VPN) provider to shut down its servers in India in response to the country’s new cybersecurity directive that requires VPNs to store user data for five years.

Surfshark says its physical servers in India will be shut down before the new law comes into force on June 27. Once the rules are in place, the company will launch a “virtual” Indian server, which will be physically located in Singapore and London. “Indian users who do not use Indian servers will not notice any difference – they will still be able to connect to any server outside the country,” it said.

Surfshark is located outside the Netherlands and as of April 2022, there were more than 3,200 servers in more than 65 countries.
