With only three weeks left until WWDC, Apple has released iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 on all devices running iOS 15. This is a much smaller update than the 15.4, which brings a number of new features to iPhones and iPads.
The new update is mostly a bug fix and security update, but there are a few new features that users will notice. According to Apple’s release note, Wallet and Podcast apps received the most attention:
- Wallet now enables Apple Cash customers to send and request money from their Apple Cash card
- The old iTunes Pass has been rebranded as an Apple account, and support for Bancomat in Italy and Bancontact banking networks in Belgium has been added to Apple Pay in Italy.
- Apple Podcasts includes a new setting to limit episodes stored on your iPhone and automatically delete old ones.
Additionally, Apple has fixed an issue with HomeKit that triggers some automation due to the arrival or departure of people. There are also probably a number of security updates, which will be detailed on Apple’s Security Updates page.
Apple also took universal control of the beta from iPad OS 15.5 and macOS Monterey 12.4, although no new functionality seems to be forthcoming. New frameworks for SportsKit and Apple Music Classical have also been seen in beta, although they have not yet been implemented in the OS. It is possible that iOS 15.5 formed the basis for the release of new features or hardware in WWDC, but it remains to be seen.
To download and install iOS 15.5 or iPadOS 15.5 on your iPhone or iPad, go to the Settings app and tap GeneralThen Software updates And follow the prompts.
