Welcome to our weekly collection of all the Apple news you’ve missed this week, in a simple bite-sized roundup. We call it Apple Breakfast because we think it goes great with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning, but it’s also great if you want to read it over lunch or dinner.
Have we just seen the iPhone 14 Pro … or?
Four months before its planned launch this fall, the iPhone 14 Pro made a premature appearance on blogs and news sites this week, when a leaked ad for Apple Pay apparently confirmed the device’s newness. Hole + pill design. The 15-second spot, posted by Apple Archive Thai, illustrates the simple process of using Apple Pay in a store, but the stylized handset has a pair of apertures instead of a notch. What a slip! Someone is being fired for this!
Maybe better. You see, when we say leaked, there is a lot of controversy about the legitimacy of the video A large portion of the commenters on a busy Reddit thread, for example, probably think this is fake. Anyone on Reddit will know that according to those guys almost everything is fake, but they raise some fair points.
One is that it was not particularly difficult to forge. We might agree that the video accurately captures the look and sound of a legitimate Apple ad, but a glance at some iPhone 14 Pro renders posted this week will show just how skilled some independent artists have become in mimicking Cupertino aesthetics. It may even be a modified version of an existing Apple ad, only changing the details of the handset.
So we’re not going to insist that this is the real thing, at least not because no one has yet proved it. But let’s think about this logically. If Apple changes the screen design of the Pro iPhone – and most liqueurs and analysts agree that it is – then it will have to create new sales materials for every market in the world for the launch. This is a major task, and you can bet that marketing teams will be part of the conversation while the design is still officially secret. At least it is Reliable At this stage something like this will happen in the pipeline.
And if you believe that iPhone 14 Pro marketing materials are starting to appear, then you have a question left: in the face of Apple’s famous leak problems, would it be any more surprising for one of them to be leaked … or all of them hidden?
We won’t know the truth until the launch event in September. But if you want to see what the fuss is about, take a look at the ‘leaked’ ad:
Apple Breakfast could write about a real Apple breakfast this week, with the news that Tim Cook is really ruining the developers at WWDC 2022. Apple’s personal event menu, which appeared online on Wednesday, includes delicacies such as smoked salmon and caviar. Barbecue Brisket, Kung Pau Tofu and Dark Chocolate Emerald Quota. We’re not sure about Micro Horseradish (how did Apple find enough small horses?) But we can go anyway.
This is far from catering to developer conferences in the past, which Cult of Mac remembers as “a few steps above Fyre Festival Food”. Of course, the epidemic situation means it will be a selected assembly as needed, so it’s easy for participants to pamper. And, rightly so, Apple thinks it has something to do with its developing partners after a few years of Effie relationship.
