Since its inception almost two years ago, we’ve considered Logitech’s MX Master 3K the best overall Mac mouse for productivity.
Now it’s updated to the MX Master 3S, and the improvements, albeit slightly, are enough to keep it at the top. The MX Master 3S is virtually the same as the MX Master 3 but has an advanced 8000dpi sensor and a quiet-click button. There’s also a new Options + app, though it will work with many Logitech rats, including older models.
A comfortable design (for right-handed users)
Logitech’s design for MX Master 3S is similar to MX Master 3’s It has a beautiful sculptural shape that fits well in the hand, with a gentle left-to-right slope and a thumb rest for a more comfortable resting position.
There are still two primary buttons, which are now incredibly cool. They still have a nice clicking feeling, not at all as impressive as some quiet-clicking rats, but they make almost no sound. Your colleagues will thank you.
A metallic nord scroll / click wheel between left and right buttons, with a toggle button to change it from smooth scrolling to a ratchet feeling. I like the ratchet mode, and if you scroll really fast, it’s like a clutch release that allows the wheel to spin freely for a few seconds, with some flywheel-like inertia. This is a great way to quickly scroll through really long documents or web pages while preserving line-by-line accuracy while running slowly.
Above the thumb rest, you’ll find two more types of scroll wheels designed to scroll left / right like a spreadsheet with two more mouse buttons. The thumb rest itself can be pressed downwards, towards your desk, as another programmable mouse click. By default, it is set to gesture — click down and drag the mouse up, down, left or right to perform a variety of gestures, as you would with a touchpad.

I find it a bit complicated to click the thumb-rest button, but it seems to be something you want to use sporadically, and when you jump from one, it’s a good idea to have a mouse option with all these two- and three-finger trackpad gestures. Trackpad.
The mouse only uses wireless, either Bluetooth or the Logi Bolt USB dongle (which is included). The bolt adapter is used for many Logitech wireless products আসলে in fact, a single adapter can be connected up to 6 at a time. What’s more, the mouse can be attached to three different devices (bolts or bluetooth) and you can flip between them with a small switch at the bottom. This is convenient for those who want to use their mouse with multiple computers; Mac or Windows / Linux PC.
Battery life is claimed to be 70 hours and is recharged via a USB-C port on the front of the mouse. In my experience, those battery life estimates are reasonably accurate. Within five days of on-off use, my mouse battery has dropped to just 90 percent. Plus you can use the mouse when it charges without any problems (I’m looking at you, Apple Magic Mouse).

Improvements over MX Master 3
With the exception of the almost silent buttons, all the features of the MX Master 3S are more or less the same as those of the MX Master 3. Here’s another minor improvement: Optical sensors, which work great for all types of tracking. On the surface, it has doubled from 4000dpi to 8000dpi.
This will be a welcome switch for those who use multiple 4K or 5K monitors. Moving around all these pixels can mean dragging your mouse across all desks, or lifting it up and moving it often, and the high-resolution sensor really reduces the need for the mouse to travel.
Option +
To launch the MX Master 3S and the new MX mechanical keyboard, Logitech has a new Logi Options + software that can replace the old Logi Options software.
This is primarily a facelift, with the same broad-stroke features as before: select mouse buttons and redistribute their functions, even select OS features or specific shortcuts or keystrokes. There are global settings and you can assign new settings and button assignments to each application.
Your options are stored in the cloud (including a Logitech account) and follow you on other systems that use Options +. It also enables a feature called Flow that lets you move controls from one computer to another by moving the mouse from the edge of the screen (assuming your devices are connected to both and both have option + installed). You can even copy and paste between machines at the speed of your local network.

It works well enough, and I was even able to easily move between my iMac and Windows 11 PC. Fortunately, Options + is a universal app (good news for M1 Mac users), while the older Options app only runs on Intel and Rosetta emulations.
But it’s not without fault. For starters, it only supports specific Logitech productivity gear, while Logitech gaming gear, blue microphones, and webcams use the same-but-slightly-different Logitech G Hub. Option + for my mouse and keyboard and I don’t need to run GHub for my webcam and Blue Yeti, but that’s it.
What’s more, G Hub has features that seem to be missing from Option +, such as the ability to create multi-step macros. It’s not just a gamer feature-programmers will probably like that option, but you can’t get it without buying a Logitech gaming peripheral to use G Hub (or relying on third-party mouse or keyboard macro software).
Logitech says that Option + will get features and support that was never in Option. We can only hope that control over the webcam and blue microphone, as well as full macro control, is higher on the list.

Should you buy MX Master 3S?
The MX Master 3S isn’t much of an upgrade over the MX Master 3, but it doesn’t have to be. Logitech is still considered by us to be the best mouse for Mac users and made it even better with a high-resolution sensor and great cool-click buttons that still feel great.
The new Options + software is a nice facelift, and while we want it to do more, it’s one of the best first-party mouse and keyboard control software in the neighborhood. If you frequently use multiple computers, you will especially notice how easy it is to use up to three MX Master 3S machines.
