WhatsApp has warned that it will drop support for iOS 10 and iOS 11 devices later this year, meaning iPhone 5 and 5c owners will have to find alternative ways to use the app. Those who have a new handset may need to update to the latest version of iOS.
wabetainfo.com was the first site to report the plan, which was confirmed by information from the WhatsApp support site. It explains: “Currently, we recommend providing and using support for the following devices: Android running OS 4.1 and newer; IPhone running iOS 12 and newer; KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2. ”
Despite what it says on the support page, iOS 10 and 11 device owners are still able to use WhatsApp, but they are beginning to receive warnings that they should “update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp.” These messages indicate that the change is going to take place on October 24 From that point on, anyone running an older version of iOS will not be able to use WhatsApp
Only this move involving iOS 10 বা or something similar-was rumored late last year but did not materialize. But WhatsApp has clearly decided that it needs to work this year. “Every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and the fewest people still using them,” it explains in the support article. “These devices may not have the latest security updates, or may lack the functionality needed to run WhatsApp.”
Even if you don’t currently run iOS 12 or later, you’ll still be able to update your iPhone to something new. If you have an iPhone 5 or 5c, there is a problem, since these handsets are not capable of installing iOS 12. These are quite old, so if WhatsApp is important to you, it may be worth buying a new iPhone
